Children don't have much bargaining power. They lack the authority embedded in adults. Their "status" if you will, is low. They have to accept an inferior position. So Jesus answers the disciples question, "Who then is greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?" with the statement "Whoever then humbles himself as this child. . ." that is, whoever accepts the call that "the first shall be last."
This Sunday at our monthly worship we continue our series on The Life of Jesus. We'll pray together, worship in song, partake of the Lord's table, and hear a sermon from Matthew's gospel, chapter 18:1-20.
In the following weeks in our Meeting House groups we'll investigate other events in Jesus' life and discuss their significance in the first century and what the passage means for us today.
More information on themes and topics are to follow. See you at 9:30am.
Look forward to seeing you there!
