Welcome to the MeetingHouse Group which is discussing,
(by Warren W. Wiersbe)
"The Epistle to the Hebrews is a book we need today. It was written at a time when the ages were colliding and when everything in society seemed to be shaking. It was written to Christians who were wondering what was going on and what they could do about it. The stabilitiy of the old was passing away, and their faith was wavering.
One of the major messages of Hebrews is - BE CONFIDENT! God is shaking things so that you may learn to live by faith and not by sight. He wants you to build your life on the permanence of the eternal and not on the instabiility of the temporal.
Many people have avoided the Epistle to the Hebrews and, consequently have robbed themselves of practical spiritual help. Some have avoided this book because they are "afraid of it." The "warnings" in Hebrews have made them uneasy. Others have avoided this book because they think it is "too difficult" for the average Bible student" (taken from the preface and p.7).
We'll be disussing the "warnings" in the Book of Hebrews but more so the pastoral concern of the writer for his audience, his encouraging words to them, and the basis for his encouragement.
